Fans of Windy City Rehab are joining Alison Victoria as she embarks on her biggest and most intimate restoration to date.
Victoria embarks on an emotional “rollercoaster” as she turns her 6,250 square foot office warehouse in Chicago into an oasis furnished with everything she’s ever desired in her new HGTV spinoff program, Windy City Rehab: Alison’s Dream Home.
In addition to sharing some design insider tips with PEOPLE ahead of the Tuesday series premiere, the design guru opened up about nearly writing off her hometown until her long-dreamt-of remodel came to pass.
Victoria tells PEOPLE, “I was prepared to leave Chicago. I thought, “I’ve been through a lot here; it’s just time for me to leave. Although she had always adored the 1930s office building she had bought six years earlier, she had never considered turning it into a home until her realtor informed her that it was theoretically feasible.
She remembers, “And the imagining started.” “With roughly 7,000 square feet and 30-foot ceilings, what could I possibly do? How can I bring this to life in the most romantic, dreamy way possible?” Then it was over. I started making plans and coming up with ideas. It still doesn’t feel like reality.
Victoria claims that since constructing her own room, she has been the “happiest” she has ever been, despite the many difficulties and risks that came with remodeling an ancient house like hers.
“Last night, as I was relaxing by the pool, I thought, ‘I deserve this.’ I was staring up at the stars through the skylights. After everything I’ve been through, this is my chance. I’m taking it now,” she says to PEOPLE. After her former business partner and co-star Donovan Eckhardt was accused of mishandling the company’s money in 2020, the Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge participant was forced to deal with major legal concerns.
She continues by saying that now that all the drama is behind her, her followers will witness her at her “happiest and healthiest” and witness “so much personal growth through the process.”
In terms of interior design, Victoria claims she took a chance on a more industrial look that is “very different” for her and combined it with the traditional Parisian flare she adores.
The interior designer drew inspiration from her trips to Europe when she added antique French doors to the entrance and an Italianate patio that evokes the feeling of her “own little fairytale.” Since she can escape the severe Midwest winter snowstorms there, the courtyard is actually one of her favorite spaces in the entire property.
“It’s going to be like a snow globe,” she continues.
Her new house is, in general, “just sexy,” she claims. Because of the element of curiosity present in the environment, which makes you want to know what’s behind every corner, your jaw drops at every turn.
