Francis Suarez News
On CNN, a Republican candidate admits Despite saying he had met the requirements for the debate, he hasn’t actually done so.
Francis Suarez, the mayor of Miami and a Republican contender for president, said on CNN’s The Source on Friday that despite having previously stated that he had done so, he still did not meet the standards set forth by his party to participate in the first Republican primary debate scheduled for next week.
“You claim to be eligible to participate in the Wednesday night debate. CNN host Kaitlan Collins said, “The RNC, I should note, says that you have not yet qualified,” before questioning Suarez, “Are you sure you’re going to be there Wednesday?”
Yes, I will undoubtedly be present on Wednesday. We’ve been having back-and-forth chats. us are sort of crossing our Ts and going through the procedure because neither they nor us have ever done this before. By having, I believe, 42,000 or so donations, for instance, we have demonstrated to them that we have surpassed the donor threshold, but it makes sense that they would need to audit that. There is a procedure in place for them to audit that. Just this evening, we sent them a few surveys, including one by Kaplan Strategies in which we came in at 2%, matching the national polls. They are also certifying that. Therefore, we are aware that it is a process.
We did sign the loyalty promise, and we anticipate finding out pretty soon—hopefully within the next 24 to 48 hours, but most definitely by Monday. We’ve planned it, made hotel arrangements, sent out invitations, and have a number of visitors travelling from Miami.
And you’re confident, Mayor, that the polling will be present? Collins inquired. Because if we look at the RNC’s qualifications and CNN’s reporting on these polls, you need one more of each to appear on that platform even if you have reached 1% in one qualifying national poll and one qualifying state poll. Are you certain that you’ll have those numbers?
“We are, we are,” asserted Suarez. We believe the poll we sent them tonight, which is from Kaplan Strategies and has a 2% response rate, will be acceptable. They are now certifying it. To make sure it satisfies all of their specifications, they actually go through and sort of scrape it.
The mayor continued, “And then we believe that between now and Monday, there will be more polls that will also certify.”
But you still haven’t reached the mark where the RNC declares that you’ve succeeded? enquired Collins.
“Yeah,” Suarez acknowledged. They still haven’t given me a final certification of sorts. As I mentioned, there is sort of back and forth, and it is a process that neither we nor they have ever undertaken. As a result, we’re closely monitoring it, being persistent with them, and they’re responding quickly. We anticipate receiving some form of certification or mark of approval soon.
Suarez revealed earlier on Friday that he has been selected to participate in the Republican primary debate on Wednesday. Suarez now has a polling average of just 0.3%. Unnamed RNC officials, though, informed the AP that the claim was untrue and that he had not yet fulfilled the conditions.
Former President Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Vivek Ramaswamy, Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum are the candidates who have been confirmed to have met the RNC’s debate requirements.
