Laura Jarrett News
‘Saturday Today’ on NBC News Will Co-Anchor by Laura Jarrett.
This autumn, Laura Jarrett from NBC News will co-anchor Saturday Today with Peter Alexander when it returns to Studio 1A in New York after starting off in Washington.
Kristen Welker will be replaced by Jarrett on September 9 when she assumes her new position as Meet the Press moderator. Alexander will continue serving as the network’s main White House reporter, and she will continue serving as NBC News’ senior legal correspondent.
After six years at CNN, Jarrett joined the network in January to cover the Justice Department and the Supreme Court. She co-anchored Early Start and reported for the network’s coverage of the DOJ and legal matters. Christine Romans, Jarrett’s co-anchor at Early Start, just left CNN as well. There are rumors that she is also moving to NBC News.
“In her first months at NBC News, Laura has quickly made her mark with tireless reporting, sharp legal insight, and powerful storytelling,” said Libby Leist, executive vice president of Today and Lifestyle. She is not just a fantastic journalist, but also a fantastic coworker.
Additionally, the network revealed that journalist Joe Fryer would continue to co-host Morning News Now on NBC News Now while taking on the role of Saturday Today feature anchor.
After graduating from Harvard, Jarrett worked as a lawyer. Valerie Jarrett, the current CEO of the Obama Foundation and a former key adviser to President Barack Obama, is her mother.
“I love that she’s been super encouraging about helping me take this plunge,” Laura Jarrett told Today.com. She understands it and has been incredibly supportive, I believe because she made many career pivots and followed her own somewhat unconventional path.
