Raffaello Follieri (born 1974) is an Italian-American convicted fraudster. He was born in Rome, Italy, and grew up in a wealthy family. Follieri attended the University of Rome La Sapienza and the London School of Economics. After graduating from the London School of Economics, Follieri moved to New York City to work as a businessman. He founded a company called Ambra International, which claimed to be involved in real estate development and humanitarian work.
Follieri was arrested in June 2008 on charges of wire fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. He was accused of defrauding investors out of millions of dollars. Follieri pleaded guilty to the charges in January 2009 and was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. He was released from prison in April 2013.
After his release from prison, Follieri worked as a motivational speaker and consultant. He has also written a book about his experiences, entitled “The Follieri Affair: An Inside Look at the Con That Shook the World.”
