Viktor Hovland Career

Hovland made the decision to become a pro after the 2019 U.S. Open following a stellar amateur career. He made his professional debut in the Travellers Championship in June 2019, when he dazzled seasoned professionals with his skills and potential.

Due to his exceptional early success in his professional career, Hovland was given a PGA Tour card for the 2019–20 season. He accomplished this milestone after finishing tied for second in the Albertsons Boise Open, which was a part of the Korn Ferry Tour Finals.

The young Norwegian golfer established a record on the PGA Tour by playing the most consecutive rounds in the 1960s—a total of 19 rounds. The second round of the CJ Cup in South Korea saw the continuation of this remarkable feat.

Hovland made history by being the first Norwegian to accomplish this feat on the PGA Tour when he won the Puerto Rico Open in February 2020. He expanded on his accomplishments and solidified his status as a rising star in the professional golf industry by winning the Mayakoba Golf Classic in both 2020 and 2021.

In June 2021, Hovland made another significant career achievement when he became the first Norwegian to win a tournament on the European Tour. He won the BMW International Open, showcasing his versatility and skill on numerous golfing tours.

In 2021, Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin, will host the European Ryder Cup, and Hovland’s remarkable performance won him a seat on the team. Even though the U.S. team ultimately won the competition, Hovland showed his skills and persistence throughout.

Viktor Hovland News

Viktor Hovland wins the BMW Championship with a course record.

At Olympia Fields, Viktor Hovland defeated overnight leaders Matt Fitzpatrick and Scottie Scheffler by two shots by making birdies on seven of his final nine holes.

The 25-year-old Norwegian started the day three shots behind Englishman Fitzpatrick and world No. 1 Scheffler.

However, he shot a career-low nine-under 61 to break the previous course record and earn the $3.6 million (£2.8 million) prize money.

Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland scored 66 to place fourth on 12 under.

Hovland, who tied for second place at the US PGA Championship in May, shot a final-round score of 17 under par, breaking the course record of 62 set by Max Homa and Sam Burns earlier in the week.

“It has to be my number one [round of his career],” he said in an interview with Sky Sports.

In my first season on the tour, I played a really memorable round of golf. I shot seven under par at Torrey Pines in the midst of hail, wind, and rain, which is perhaps the best I’ve ever done throughout a round.

I don’t have anything that compares to shooting 61 on this golf course and 28 on the back nine, though.

The BMW Championship is the sixth and last round of the FedEx Playoffs, which conclude the season.

The top 30 finishers will advance to the Tour Championship final in Atlanta the following week. The field consists of the top 50 players on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup standings.

Due to his dominance of the FedEx Cup rankings at the end of the week, American Scheffler will start the Tour Championship with a two-shot edge.

Hovland, who is currently in seventh place, is about to go up to second, while McIlroy is currently in third.

Hovland had a remarkable run that included three consecutive birdies starting at the 10th hole, gains on the 14th and 15th holes, and a move into a tie for the lead on the 17th hole with his ninth birdie of the day.

As Scheffler three-putted the 17th shortly after, Hovland’s triumph was all but certain. He eagled the last hole to move to the top of the scoreboard.

Fitzpatrick equaled playing partner Scheffler’s 66 to finish 15 under, matching his younger brother Alex’s performance from earlier in the day on the DP World Tour.

“I was thinking that if I post a score like I did yesterday [65], I could at least have a chance, but it’s hard when you have so many guys in front of you that are really good and playing awesome,” Hovland continued.
